SplatNet 2, a mobile app created to facilitate Splatoon 2's online multiplayer mode, will launch on July 21st, the same day as the game, as part of Nintendo's broader Switch online app.

Interestingly, online play within Splatoon 2 will be free until the Switch Online service is rolled out in 2018.

The Splatnet website has been folded into the Nintendo Switch online app, which will launch on July 21 with the game. It will support in-game voice chat and allow players to make private lobbies for friends. There's also information like stage schedules, gear and stats you've used, and ways for players to keep in touch with their Splatoon 2 business while away from their Switches.

During the Splatoon 2 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revealed that it will release Nintendo Switch Online for iOS and Android. Sometimes you just don't want to shoot ink around a skate park for a couple hours while you wait for other maps to cycle through. As mentioned before, SplatNet 2 is part of the Nintendo Switch Online app. You could play through an action-packed single-player campaign, compete against other players online, or use the Wii U's GamePad to play one-on-one with a friend.

The whole aesthetic of Splatoon 2's clothing options can basically be described as athleisure-hipster-punk mixed with graffiti street art - and some scuba gear thrown in for good measure, of course. It looks like friends can be invited from your social media contacts, your Nintendo Switch Friends List, or from a list of people you've battled against previously.
