After completing the signing of Mohamed Salah last week, Liverpool are now targeting an improvement to their midfield.

RB Leipzig have received no approach from Liverpool regarding the transfer of Naby Keita, sources have told ESPN FC. In 31 league outings, Keita helped Leipzig qualify for the Champions League by directly contributing in 16 goals (8 goals and 8 assists).

The Times reports that Liverpool are ready to test Leipzig's resolve by making a club-record bid for the Guinea global.

Paul Joyce, a highly-respected voice on all things Liverpool, now working with The Times, claims Jurgen Klopp and the board are set to "test the resolve" of the German side by finally putting in a firm offer.

Leipzig expect Keita to report for preseason training on July 12, which will be slightly later than other teammates due to his participation with Guinea over the summer.

Liverpool are expected to smash their club record several times this summer with the Reds not yet completely giving up on signing Southampton captain Virgil van Dijk.

Keita has been touted as having a £70m price tag, although he has a £48m release clause in his contract that can be unlocked next summer.

Reds boss Jürgen Klopp will be looking to bolster his attacking options at Anfield this summer, as he looks to guide his side to success both domestically and on the continent.

Whilst the 30-year-old is on the wrong end of the age spectrum to be considered as a typical Klopp signing, his incessant pressing, and 100 per cent commitment to the cause makes him the ideal acquisition for Liverpool this summer.
