Recchi finally to be enshrined into Hockey Hall of Fame

Teemu Selanne leads 2017 Hockey Hall of Fame inductees Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya highlight Hockey Hall of Fame 2017 class

Selanne called his former teammate before chairman Lanny McDonald could deliver the news, and was even hoping Kariya might pick up the tab for a private plane north to Toronto for the fall ceremony.

Another Buffalo Sabre is headed to the Hall of Fame.

The Hall announced its latest induction class Monday, and Goyette is set to become just the fifth woman to be enshrined as an honoured member - joining Angela Ruggiero (2015), Geraldine Heaney (2013), Cammi Granato (2010), and Angela James (2010). Babcock called Drake the John Wooden of Canadian hockey. "He made me a better player, a better person and I appreciate everything he did for me off the ice as well as on". "As a Canadian university hockey coach, this honor is truly special".

"Being elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame was the furthest thing from my mind when I purchased the team over 40 years ago", Jacobs SAID. He is the only former player with at least 500 goals and 1,500 points who was not already in the Hall of Fame.

Andreychuk was a power play specialist who had a good touch in close in his 20 years and amassed 640 goals. He is 11th all-time in goals scored and 15th in points.

Like Recchi, Anderychuk wasn't a flashy player that won a bunch of individual awards like Selanne and Kariya did. She is also Canada's all-time leading scorer in the IIHF World Championships, with 53 points in eight tournaments.

"I'd like to congratulate Dave for such a well-deserved honor - I feel this has been a long time coming for him".

Kariya and Selanne were linemates on the Mighty Ducks from 1995-96 to 2000-01.

As a freshman at the University of ME in 1992-93, Kariya tallied 100 points in 39 games and became the first freshman to win the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey's best player, among other awards.

"I have to thank all of the countless people in my life who helped me get here", Kariya said. To be in there with them and to play with them and now to join them in this, I never expected this when I started playing in the National Hockey League.

Andreychuk, who was a two-time All-Star, gained entry into the Hall in his ninth year of eligibility. When teams returned from the lockout, Recchi signed on to play in Pittsburgh again, but was sent to Carolina where he was part of the 2005-06 Stanley Cup champions.

Still, it's clear he wonders how his remarkable career would have looked like without all the head injuries.

Recchi was well-traveled as a player, suiting up for seven teams during a 22-year career. In 2006-07 at the age of 36, he led the Ducks in goals (48) and points (94) on the way to a Stanley Cup title.
