Pelosi defends leadership following special election loss

'Resolve to keep fighting': Dan Rather wants to see Democrats battle issues — not just Trump A Lesson for Democrats From Jon Ossoff's Big Loss

Target Book publisher Darry Sragow, a longtime Democratic strategist, and research director Rob Pyers warned in a recent op-ed piece that the seemingly vulnerable Republican incumbents Democrats hope to oust are still pretty popular locally.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats put a fearless face on Wednesday morning after a disappointing loss in the Georgia special election, yet there is no disguising the unhappiness in the party ranks.

Democrats are wondering if is time to ditch Nancy Pelosi as their leader after suffering a stinging defeat Tuesday night in the special election for a congressional seat in Georgia.

"Karen has to run again, so watch out", said one Democrat at the Ossoff party.

Sabato, who heads the University of Virginia Center for Politics, said he heard from several senior Democrats Tuesday night who were less than pleased with Pelosi's impact on the Georgia race. If the Democrats had raised the profile of the race, the GOP Congressional campaign committee would have responded with lots of money and surrogate campaigners.

"I think I'm worth the trouble".

So far in 2017, despite the pipe-dreams of the Democrat Party leadership and the hopeful predictions of the Trump-hating media, Republicans are 4-0 in special House elections.

"One of the disappointing things from the last couple of days is that that approach still has a little bit of punch to it. People in OH don't grab me about Russian Federation at all when I'm home", Ryan said.

"I feel very confident in the support I have in the caucus", Pelosi said. "They always want to choose our leaders", she said.

"We will carry those key lessons forward in order to compete in districts as Republican-leaning as Georgia, and in the dozens of districts on our battlefield that are much more competitive,"Luján said".

"I had a member of Congress grab me tonight, "Please, tell me you're not going to get rid of Nancy Pelosi; please, tell me she's not going to retire" because that's who I run against", he said.

Mediaite previously noted Trump's suggestion that it was Barack Obama's fault for not stopping Russian Federation from interfering with the 2016 election.

"Sen. (Harry) Reid was a target, Sen". Now, with Obama and Reid gone, Republicans have occasionally tried latching Democratic senators to Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Warren, with mixed results. "If the [marginal swing from November] holds true in a year, we sweep the House". Pelosi has helped engineer budget deals, an overhaul of the nation's health care law and an economic stimulus during her years as a leader.

Ryan, appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Thursday, said he thinks it will be "very hard" for Democrats to take back the House without new leadership.

"Right now, what I'm pushing for is a conversation within the caucus", Rice said. "And the party's base has no patience anymore for the kind of careful triangulation that Bill Clinton practiced on issues like crime and welfare policy, or for the then-Democratic voters who were reassured by it". Democrats are in the minority in the federal and state legislative branches, and they've now sustained five consecutive losses in special House elections.

"Nancy Pelosi was a great speaker". Georgia 6 has undergone substantial demographic change since the last redistricting to the advantage of a Democratic candidate.

Ossoff didn't lose because President Trump is popular in Georgia's Sixth District.

And progressive activists' willingness to pour millions of dollars' worth of small-dollar online contributions into Ossoff's campaign - donations fueled nearly entirely by a desire to deal Trump a political setback - was what convinced Democrats to take the race seriously.
