Chile could open its Confederations Cup campaign without two leading players.

Chile scored twice in the final 10 minutes to beat Cameroon 2-0 in a Confederations Cup match with several VAR-related talking points.

Cameroon goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa dives to deflect a ball during the Confederations Cup, Group B soccer match between Cameroon and Chile, at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow, Sunday, June 18, 2017.

Chile looked to have found their breakthrough just before the stroke of half-time - Vidal again feeding Vargas in behind the defence for the forward to fire home - but the Video Assistant Referee system adjudged the Tigres man to be offsides despite appearing to be in a legal position.

Referee Damir Skomina awarded the goal and Chile's players started an elaborate goal celebration, but the decision was then sent for video review - the key piece of new technology being debuted by Federation Internationale de Football Association at the Confederations Cup.

After Vidal put Chile ahead in the 80th, Vargas scored Chile's second - but only after another review.

There was no dispute about Vidal's goal as he rose above two defenders to power home the ball as Sanchez, who had been ruled out of the starting line-up through injury but came in early in the second half, provided the ideal assist.

Cameroon goalkeeper Jospeh Ondoa was required to do plenty of work in the first-half although inside the first minute the upright did his job for him as it denied Vargas.

Cameroon carved out their first chance after 11 minutes as Vincent Aboubakar forced Herrera into a good save from close range, following a swift counter attack.

The African champions came closest when captain Benjamin Moukandjo hit narrowly wide with a shot from the edge of the penalty area midway through the second half.
