America's Cup Match Day Two To Get Underway

Both cartoons were drawn by San Francisco artist Elena Achilli, the first one apparently after Spithill skippered Oracle Team USA to one of the greatest comebacks in sports by winning eight straight races after being down 8-1 in 2013 on San Francisco Bay to retain the oldest trophy in worldwide sports.

And it was a similar story on Sunday, Peter Burling helping his crew to further victories to secure a 3-0 lead.

“Weve said all along that we are learning all the time and although we won both races we got a lot wrong and made too many mistakes today, ” said the 26-year-old.

"Credit to Peter [Burling] and Emirates Team New Zealand because they made fewer mistakes to win both races".

Oracle Team USA's track record of performing when their backs are against the wall and the intervening five days should set up a fascinating showdown to the competition as both teams race to modify their boats and improve performance.

Four years ago, New Zealand were eventually overhauled by an Oracle team that featured Britain's Ben Ainslie as tactician in what is regarded as one of sport's great comebacks.

Boats compete in the America's Cup J Class Regatta June 15, 2017 in Hamilton.

“But we need to sharpen up — and thats what we will focus on tonight.”. "Clearly we weren't sailing at our best".

'But I think we did well enough to keep our elbows out and keep them behind us, after a couple of great starts'.

"If we have to change hulls, its nearly twice the price to have our chance to perform", Cammas said.

This is a rematch of that epic regatta, when Team New Zealand, then skippered by Dean Barker, reached match point at 8-1 before Oracle Team USA won eight straight races on San Francisco Bay to retain the oldest trophy in global sports.

Despite relinquishing the point advantage they held at the beginning of yesterday, Oracle Team USA helmsman Jimmy Spithill is refusing to panic, especially with the experience of overturning an 8-1 deficit to the same opposition in 2013. He has won Olympic gold and silver medals with grinder Blair Tuke.

They must find a solution to the superior upwind speed of Team NZ's catamaran and devise a way to rattle Burling, who has been flawless with his starts and decision-making so far, nullifying the threat of aggressive match-racing ability of Team USA's Australian skipper Jimmy Spithill.

"I think it's pretty obvious these guys are faster and we need to make some serious changes", a glum-looking Spithill said.

Cammas, who showed his determination by battling back to the peak levels of fitness required to sail the demanding boats after a serious injury in training in late 2015 almost severed his foot, sees his future with the America's Cup, which remains his goal.

"The margin blew out once more and at one stage Emirates Team New Zealand were ahead by 1'35", only to see the Americans find pressure and storm back to close within three seconds at mark five.

Spithill was over the starting line early, forcing him to drop two boat lengths behind to clear the penalty.

The always-innovative Kiwis are using a "cyclor" grinding system. During tacks and gybes, the cyclists unclip, run across the trampoline to the other hull and clip back in, powering the hydraulic systems that control the wingsail and raise and lower the daggerboards.
