Haley: 'President Trump believes the climate is changing'

Nations vow firm stance on climate Jerry Brown defies Trump on world stage

In what can be pegged as a strong sign of support to Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris climate agreement, American Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, has said that the USA doesn't need India, China and France telling them what to do in case of the Paris agreement.

The money - to be paid by Bloomberg Philanthropies - will help cover a funding gap left by Donald Trump's decision to yank America out of the climate pact and slash payments for the nation's share of administration of the agreement.

The President of the U.S. has, however, faced much criticism on home soil and overseas for backing out of the agreement, with the United Nations calling his withdrawal a "great disappointment".

Last week, Mr Trump pulled out of the Paris accord, stressing that it puts American workers at an "economic disadvantage" and that it is "unfair" for the USA economy. "We don't need India and France and China telling us what they think we should do".

Haley said that Trump will always have America's best interests at heart, including what he does in regard to protecting the environment. Rather, it's more likely that they seek to impose carbon-related tariffs on United States goods if these are deemed to be enjoying an unfair advantage because they are produced in an economy free of carbon restraints.

Haley, 45, has defended Trump's decision saying he knows climate is changing.

When asked why the U.S. pulled out of the climate agreement, Haley blamed former President Barack Obama for agreeing to regulations that were "too onerous", too strict and ultimately unachievable.

"This is a very clear message that the U.S. is no longer a partner for Pacific states but who do they look to?" "Just because the USA got out of a club doesn't mean we aren't going to care about the environment", Haley said.

"Our administration looks forward to continued, bipartisan collaboration with other states to protect the environment, grow the economy and deliver a brighter future to the next generation", Baker said in a statement.

"Just because we got out of a club doesn't mean that we don't care about the environment". We know that we have to be conscious of it. We're going to continue doing our part.

But Dr Powles said the United States withdrawal also raises other questions like whether China will keep its climate funding commitments.

Haley said the regulations from the Paris agreement were disadvantaging the companies.

Only after the election of Trump, who has called climate change a hoax, did Brown's climate diplomacy find new prominence as a counterweight to a Republican-held White House.

Trump's top climate adviser Scott Pruitt was indignant: "The world applauded when we joined Paris".
