German media had questioned rearranging the match so quickly after three explosives had shattered windows and injured Dortmund defender Marc Bartra en route to the Westfalenstadion for a tie which was originally to be played Tuesday.

However they said that they were seeking an arrest warrant to keep the 26-year-old Iraqi national, identified only as Abdul Beset A.in detention over allegedly having been a "member of the Islamic State group" in Iraq.

Bild said prosecutors were also investigating two additional suspects in the attack, one a neo-Nazi sympathiser and another from a radical leftist group.

"We were informed by text message that UEFA were making this decision", Tuchel said.

Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin said the attack showed that there is so much more than football in the world. The attack resulted in defender Marc Bartra needing surgery for a fractured wrist.

Three identical letters printed in German found near the scene of the attack in the western city of Dortmund suggested a possible Islamist motive for the attack.

Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel hit out at UEFA for disregarding the feelings of his shaken players by staging their Champions League game against Monaco less than 24 hours after a bomb attack targeted the team bus.

"From what I heard from team sources, many players didn't want to play today".

"He is also said to have fought for unification".

Dortmund, who eventually played the delayed match against Monaco a day after the attack, are preparing to host Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday. "Everybody can imagine it was a hard moment for me because I don't know how often I was in the team hotel with Dortmund", Klopp, who managed Dortmund between 2008 and 2015, told the Daily Mirror on Thursday.

Germany has been on high alert since a series of jihadist attacks a year ago, including a deadly Christmas market truck rampage in Berlin.

There was tight security at Wednesday evening's match, with armed police officers in body armour patrolling the streets around Dortmund's stadium, while supporters were banned from taking backpacks to the match and some were frisked. We want to help every player to overcome his inner conflict.

Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere, who attended the match, said the "fascination" surrounding football drove terrorists to try to disrupt it.

Monaco took a step towards the semi-finals thanks to Kylian Mbappe's brace away from home.
