Despite goals and win, Ronaldo still wanted more

"Hopefully Real Madrid win and reach the semifinals", he said.

Cristiano Ronaldo's brace to beat Lionel Messi to 100 goals in European football came against a "wall" in Bayern Munich keeper Manuel Neuer, says Zinedine Zidane.

But, it would be worth noting that this legend from Madeira did not find the net in his first 30 outings. He last found the back of the net in a 2-2 group stage draw with Borussia Dortmund previous year. It can be just 11 hours for any other striker since he last scored against Borussia Dortmund, but to Ronaldo its like eternity.

Bayern were unable to defend their opener as Real turned up in the second half with two goals from Ronaldo on Wednesday evening, reports Xinhua news agency.

"They could have killed it (the tie) by scoring another goal, but they didn't".

Bayern Munich face a familiar problem as they travel to old European foes Real Madrid on Tuesday needing to make history to keep faint hopes of Champions League glory alive. Those two goals and yellow cards are what won Real Madrid the match and will probably send them into the semifinals, and they wouldn't have happened without Ronaldo.

Bale will therefore be sidelined in Gijon with a view towards being included for Tuesday's second leg against Bayern.

Bayern had Javi Martinez sent off in the second half, paving the way for Ronaldo's 77th-minute victor.

While he has feasted in front of goal throughout his career, it had been something of a European starvation in the buildup to the game for Ronaldo.

"We did well to earn the comeback", Ronaldo said. Ronaldo now focuses more on movement guided by guile. To prevent this, he now plays simple passes off to teammates, relying on them to get him the ball in risky areas when before he could get it there all on his own. Keeping aside his continued supremacy at opposition's defense, Ronaldo now regularly helps out defensively, often coming down deep to regain possession.

The goals have been shared around, too, with Ronaldo finding the net in 24 European cities across 15 countries.

"When I started scoring goals in the Champions League I never thought I would break this record".

The four-time world player of the year took his tally to 98 goals in the Champions League with goals in the 47th and 77th minutes.

"I don't know if it's envy, but Cristiano's numbers speak for themselves", said the Brazilian global defender.

Surely, Bayern Munich isn't one of them.
