Mourinho summons strength for Chelsea ambush

Spencer Simpson | 17 April, 2017, 00:30

A constant menace for Chelsea's defense with his mobility and direct approach, Rashford ensured Ibrahimovic wasn't missed at Old Trafford.

Ander Herrera scored one goal, set up another and executed the flawless man-marking job on Eden Hazard to set up Manchester United's 2-0 win over Chelsea that opened up the Premier League title race on Sunday.

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic admitted he was "tired" in Thursday's Europa League draw at Anderlecht and had no issue with Jose Mourinho's criticism.

The France midfielder, who has endured an erratic season since his world record move from Juventus, says Mourinho's men would dearly love to damage Chelsea's title hopes and boost their bid to finish in the top four in the process. The league is open and we have a 50% percent [opportunity] to win the league.

"I think that the impact was very tough today but when you play at Old Trafford it is normal to have this type of impact against a really strong team as United", Conte said.

"They deserved to win because they showed more desire than us, more motivation", said the Italian, whose side face Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-finals next weekend.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was too exhausted to start the game against Chelsea, according to Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

It was a signature win for Mourinho near the end of his first season at United.

"They have a great team and everybody knows that", Pogba said.

Chelsea and Manchester United meet a Premier Laegue match at Old Trafford on April 16, 2017 in Manchester, England.

They were beaten on penalties by Moyes' current employers Sunderland in the semi-finals of that season's League Cup - eventually won by 2013-14 Premier League champions Manchester City - and the Scot feels Mourinho is now enjoying an easier ride for succeeding where he failed.

Dropping Ibrahimovic - United's top scorer this season with 28 goals - was another sign of that, but Mourinho insisted he wasn't prioritizing.

However, it will not be an easy task for Antonio Conte's men as they look to break the Red Devils' 21-game unbeaten run in the league. "This season Chelsea are a much better team than us".

Herrera, who denied deliberately handling the ball prior to setting up Rashford's opener, said United's display had been "almost perfect".
