Roberto Firmino's first-half header saw Liverpool consolidate their position in the Premier League's top four with a 1-0 win at West Bromwich Albion on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool are back up to third in the table, two points ahead of Manchester City having played a game more than Pep Guardiola side.

Chelsea now leads the EPL with 75 points, with a four-point difference ahead of second-placed Tottenham Hotspurs.

The Brazilian converted a flick-on from Lucas Leiva to seal a fifth win in their last seven games for Liverpool.

In second-half stoppage time, West Brom sent goalkeeper Ben Foster up for a corner but Liverpool claimed possession.

Tony Pulis' men continued to make life hard for their opponents with Nacer Chadli missing a glorious chance at the far post.

The Belgian was distracted by the slightest of touches by Emre Can, but Chadli should still have gobbled up the chance.

Georginio Wijnaldum slid a nicely weighted pass into Firmino's path and the goalscorer chipped across the West Brom box, where Milner charged forward from left-back to volley over. Coutinho then tried another long-range shot but it never troubled Foster.

Roberto Firmino scored the only goal of the game, which, ironically, came from a set-piece, but who were the stars of the show at the Hawthorns. "[Simon] Mignolet was in there again with the fist and it was really good".

The visitors had the better of the second half, too, but were unable to add to their advantage.

Milner should have scored moments later when he arrived late to meet a cross by Firmino, only to side-foot a volley over the crossbar.

"We needed to adapt to what West Brom wanted to do".

With just over ten minutes remaining, however, Mignolet made a fantastic save to keep out Phillips, who was played in on goal by substitute Salomon Rondon after a fine counter-attacking run.

The winger connected well with his shot but it was smothered low down by Mignolet.
