Swansea are now two points adrift of Hull, who are on 30 points but a win can change everything and that is exactly what the Swans should be targeting when travelling to Watford this weekend.

An error from Swansea's Alfie Mawson led to Watford's winning goal at Vicarage Road with defeat leaving the visitors inside the Premier League bottom three.

Paul Clement's men might have something to say about that, though and they need to show the same desire and determination to win as they did when Paul Clement first took the reigns at Swansea.

√Čtienne Capoue capitalised on Mawson's sloppiness to score the only goal of a tiresome encounter, the victory all but securing Watford's top-flight status.

The result all but secures Watford's place in the top flight for another season, although they were a touch fortunate to down a battling Swansea side for whom Gylfi Sigurdsson twice went close.

Forward Fernando Llorente missed those two games but returned as a second half substitute in the West Ham defeat after recovering from an ankle injury.

Their sole consolation from another tough away afternoon came in the form of 17th-placed Hull City also losing, beaten 3-1 at Stoke City.

"For us it's about focusing on the task in hand and that is our game at Watford".

The Swansea goalkeeper had to be at this best moments later as Troy Deeney looked to sweep home Daryl Janmaat's cross only to see his effort tipped over by the Poland global. Mawson made a catastrophic one when he dithered and lost the ball to Capoue who scored at the second attempt after Fabianski had saved well from his first.

- Watford have kept three consecutive clean sheets on home soil in the Premier League for the first time since September 2015.

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement describes next week's Premier League clash with Stoke City as their "biggest in a number of years".

- The Swans have failed to score in four of their last five Premier League games (one goal scored in the other), after finding the back of the net in seven in a row.
