Microsoft says users are protected from alleged NSA malware

New Leak Shows NSA Hacked Overseas Banking Networks New leak suggests NSA penetrated Mideast banking networks

On Friday the Shadow Brokers, a mysterious hacker or group of hackers, released the "Microsoft apocalypse" that wasn't.

Even though these attacks are believed to be several years old, there is speculation that at least one of them may still work on machines running Windows 10.

We all know the NSA has the tools to spy on virtually everyone, but now hacking group Shadow Brokers has released a data dump that has allegedly come from the NSA, which details that the United States spy agency can hack worldwide banks - and more important, yl the SWIFT network through Windows PCs and servers that are used during global financial transfers.

SWIFT, based in Belgium, released a less categorical statement, saying, "we understand that communications between these service bureaus and their customers may previously have been accessed by unauthorized third parties". "Other than reporters, no individual or organization has contacted us in relation to the materials released by Shadow Brokers", the company said.

Criminals stole millions of dollars from Bangladesh's central bank after Swift was targeted by hackers previous year.

Hundreds of megabytes worth of sophisticated hacking tools purportedly stolen from the National Security Agency became publicly available Friday, triggering security experts across the globe to sound alarms as the US government's weaponized software exploits seemingly entered the wild.

Other researchers, pouring through the dump, say they are finding some hacking tools that are really risky and could impact most versions of Windows, including the type that runs on computer servers. Friday's release, containing Windows hacking tools and evidence the NSA may have hacked a slew of banks in the Middle East, once again offered the tools for sale, suggesting the federal government pay them to stop leaking.

The researcher was able to run numerous exploits found in the cache, according to a tweet.

Now it seems that the NSA gained access to SWIFT customer accounts through one of SWIFT's service bureaus to monitor money flow in the Middle East, although EastNets has denied the claim.

The newly leaked NSA files suggest that the agency may have hacked into SWIFT's network via service bureaus, which are firms that provide smaller clients with access points to the SWIFT system. According to the blog, some of the security flaws the NSA tools took advantage were not patched until March.

The documents and files were released by a group calling themselves the Shadow Brokers. The NSA is now facing criticism for not sharing details of the exploits with Microsoft once it became clear the tools were in the hands of a hacking group.

On Friday, Snowden tweeted that the Shadow Brokers release was "not a drill" and that it shows the NSA was capable of hacking fully updated Microsoft Windows systems.
