Boston Red Sox (3-2, plus-3)

Boston Red Sox's Chris Young connects for a run scoring double against the Detroit Tigers during the eighth inning of a baseball game Friday Bradley out of starting lineup for Red Sox, has MRI on knee

After some optimism surrounding Jackie Bradley Jr.'s knee over the last couple of days, the team ended up placing him on the 10-day disabled list after all.

Bradley sprained his knee as a result of losing his footing while rounding first base in the ninth inning on Saturday. The lefthander had been on the disabled list while coming back from a forearm injury. An injury to Bradley would be a nightmare scenario for the flu-ravaged Red Sox. He was set to head back to Boston for further examination. "I already got some treatment on it. Feel like it's going in the right direction". He was able to walk off and seemed OK, but Manager John Farrell said before Sunday's game that Bradley was dealing with soreness and swelling, and had an MRI. But the plans changed when Bradley's knee stiffened and swelled up overnight. With Bradley out, the Sox will easily plug fourth outfielder Chris Young into left and move Andrew Benintendi to center. Still, an all-around talent like Bradley Jr.is tough to replace.

Among those affected by one aspect of the flu or another: Mookie Betts (he played in his second game on Sunday), Mitch Moreland, Hanley Ramirez, Robbie Ross Jr., and Joe Kelly.

The Red Sox return to Fenway Park tonight and Drew Pomeranz returns to the mound.
