Two people died and two were injured in the shooting.

Students at North Park are being taking to Cajon High School for safety. At least two students have been airlifted to a hospital, and the suspect is believed to be down.

The school is about 10 miles from the Inland Regional Center, where 14 people were killed and 22 wounded in a December 2015 terror attack carried out by a husband and wife. According to KTLA, the classroom may have been a mix of third and fourth grade students.

"We believe this to be a murder suicide".

It is not yet known whether anyone else was inside the classroom at the time or if the gunman meant to shoot the children.

According to the mayor of San Bernardino, east of Los Angeles, one of the dead was the gunman. "The adult female was in the classroom".

A San Bernardino City Unified spokesperson said, "We have a shooter down and three victims". One of them was a teacher, the other was an unidentified man. As of midday Monday, police do not believe children were intentionally targeted in the shooting. It was not immediately clear whether the campus has metal detectors or other equipment created to prevent weapons from being carried into the school.

She added that the elementary school do not have uniformed police officers or campus security, unlike the district's middle and high schools.

Paula Garcia and her family drove to the school soon after hearing about the shooting Monday morning. "Two students have been transported to the hospital".

Children are being bussed to a different location so they can be reunited with their parents.

"All of the kids started running out". Many said their children were too young to have cellphones. Police and emergency personnel responded to the incident within minutes.

"This is a tragic event". A helicopter landed on campus to treat victims, Garcia said.

The Times reports that a triage area has been set up, quoting a spokesman from the San Bernardino County Fire Department who called it a "developing situation".
