YouTube on Thursday announced that it will not run ads on channels who have less than 10,000 views.

The video streaming service added, once a video channel crossed the threshold, it would review the content to see whether it qualified for the placement of ads.

YouTube also plans to soon add a review process for new "creators" who want money-generating channels as part of a partner program at the video-sharing service, according to Bardin. Those that do make it onto the platform are generally taken down quickly and few reach the 10,000-view mark, he said. YouTube believes that this threshold will give them a chance to gather enough information on a channel to know if it's legit. "Together these new thresholds will help ensure revenue only flows to creators who are playing by the rules", Bardin explains further in the announcement blog.

YouTube is changing how its partner program operates. YouTube defines channel impersonation as a case in which a user copies a channel's profile, background or text, and writes comments to make it look like somebody else's channel posted the comments.

"Publishers are increasingly going to spend their money on digital so they are going to be asking for more in terms of their ads appearing alongside the right content".

The new rule imposes that any YouTube channel which surpasses the 10,000 milestones will be prone to earn advertising money off of ads.

YouTube is more than just a source of cat videos and hilariously painful-looking accidents caught on camera: for many people it is a source of extra income, or even a living.

Major brands including Walmart, Pepsi, Coca-Cola and others have pulled out their advertisements from the platform after YouTube's algorithm displayed ads against videos that were racially insensitive and featured objectionable content as reported by TechCrunch. So when a video channel reaches the given number of views, YouTube will review the channel's activity and if everything seems fine, it will start serving ads to the channel.
