CRPF Commanding Officer of the 45th battalion, Chetan Kumar Cheetah - who was shot multiple bullets during the encounter and was airlifted from Srinagar to AIIMS Trauma Center in Delhi two months ago for further treatment is reported to be fit and ready for discharge. "His eyes were closed, he was completely unconscious but the moment I saw him breathing, I knew he will make it through".

Cheetah underwent a surgery to remove a portion of the skull within 24 hours of his admission in the Delhi hospital.

The CRPF commander's wife Uma Singh stood beside him with an unshakable conviction that he will make it through.

On February 14, Chetan Cheetah lead his team to an encounter in Parray Mohalla encounter of Hajin area in Bandipora region.

April. 5 (ANI): Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer Chetan Cheeta was discharged from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on Wednesday. That strengthened my faith, but the journey is not over yet. The 45-year-old CRPF commandant was initially admitted in a military hospital in Srinagar.

According to doctors, the hope for vision returning to Cheetah's right eye is "bleak" although vision in his left eye, which to sustained splinter injuries, has been restored.

Subsequently, they said, the wounds were covered with skin grafting by the plastic surgery team.

Also, Cheetah expressed his desire to get back to work as soon as possible.

His deputy in the ministry and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju visited the officer at the AIIMS Trauma centre here and talked to him.

"I thank the team of doctors who helped Shri Chetan Cheeta in his recovery".

Rijiju said he was "proud" of the officer.

"His comeback to normal life has shown the true grit of a warrior", Anurag Srivastava, Chief of AIIMS Trauma Centre, said. The army chief General Bipin Rawat had also gone to visit him at the base hospital following the encounter where he spoke to the doctors regarding his health. Cheeta had joined the CRPF in January 1998.
