Dame Vera, who turned 100 on Monday, was born in East Ham in east London and would have attended the school in the mid to late 1920s. Here's what you need to know...

"Celebrating Dame Vera's birthday is the flawless opportunity to let everyone share memories and have some fun".

A military-style salute and flag-waving carried on regardless, all in support of her children's charity but also celebrating the 100th birthday of our own Forces' Sweetheart.

Her last public performance was in 1995, at a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day that was held in front of Buckingham Palace with the Queen looking on, when crowds sang along with Lynn and waved British flags.

Among British Servicemen she became known as the "Forces" sweetheart'.

She would tour across the world to entertain the troops during wartime, often at great personal risk, as part of the Entertainments National Service Association.

Films she has appeared in include: We'll Meet Again (1943), Rhythm Serenade (1943), One Exciting Night (1944) and Meet Again (2014).

Having never had professional musical training, viewers will learn how the early days of her career saw Lynn spend "hours leafing through sheet music" in London's Denmark Street to find the songs she wanted to perform.

She is already the oldest living artist to land a United Kingdom number one album and her recording company, Decca, hopes she will extend that record with the new album.

During the Second World War she inspired our troops and stole the hearts of a generation, so today we'll honour the centenary of Dame Vera Lynn with a unique and fitting tribute.

This song was used as encouragement for soldiers and their families during the war reminding them that it would eventually come to an end and they would be reunited with their loved ones.

The new album will make her the first singer to have released an album as a centenarian. The new album's chart position will be known on Friday.
