Two Indian clerics, including the head priest of Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah and his nephew, went missing in Pakistan recently. We would like to thank the Indian government and Sushma Swaraj for their efforts.

The clerics' family in Karachi was also reluctant to cooperate with the Indian high commission in Islamabad, officials said, suggesting pressure from Pakistan authorities.

The news comes in a day after external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj said Pakistan's spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) likely abducted the two men.

"I would like to request the agencies in Pakistan to free both of them". Both are missing after they landed at Karachi airport.... Pakistan had claimed that that Asif was allowed to go to Karachi, but Nazim was stopped at the airport itself.

"Pakistan Foreign Office has confirmed that the two Indian clerics have been traced and reached Karachi", a source said in New Delhi.

The source added that this makes it clear that the disappearance is "well organised". The trip was part of a traditional two-way exchange of clerics between the two countries as the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah in Delhi is associated with Gharib Nawaz, who is venerated in Data Darbar Lahore.

The duo had travelled to Pakistan to visit their relatives in Karachi and, then, embarked on a pilgrimage to Lahore.

The two had reached the Pakistani port city to meet their relatives after visiting the Data Darbar Sufi shrine in Lahore.

Asif Nizami's son Sajid Ali had told reporters that his father went missing at the Karachi Airport while a few others, including Nazim Nizami, were detained at Lahore. As Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar tweeted late on Friday night: "I met one of these gentlemen at the Nizamuddin dargah in Delhi a year ago".
