Bomb Threat At Jewish Community Center Heightens Security In Greater Baltimore Bomb threat targets Jewish Community Center of Atlanta - CBS46 News

The Levite JCC in Birmingham has suffered four bomb threats since the beginning of the year and been evacuated each time, disrupting its preschool and exercise facilities.

Jewish Community Center facilities in the Baltimore area received an emailed bomb threat Wednesday, the fourth such threat this year.

According to Cathal Lucy, the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta's director of communitywide security the threat came via e-mail and was sent to several people including CEO Jared Powers.

By March 6 the community center had received three phoned in bomb threats, leading center members to hold a town hall last week to soothe concerns of parents with children in the center's pre-school and day school programs.

Juan M. Thompson, 32, is too much of a threat to the community to be released without any restrictions, U.S. Magistrate Judge David Noce ruled Monday.

"The safety and security of our members, staff, and guests is always our top priority", read a statement from Atlanta's Marcus JCC on Tuesday's threat.

"Our department responded at approximately 9 a.m.to the JCC in relation to a call for a bomb threat", said Benjamin Granda, police spokesman.

The FBI, Department of Homeland Security and other law enforcement agencies have been investigating the threats, but have yet to charge anyone with committing the vast majority of them. "There is no place for this reprehensible conduct in St. Louis County".

On Thursday, a top NY police official said most of the threats were likely being carried out by a single individual using phone spoofing technology to mask the source of the calls.
