Nick Xenophon warns Pauline Hanson not to do any more preference deals

Along with many other commentators, Hanson believes it was the preference deal they knocked together with the Liberals which doomed them, as it drained them of populist appeal they might otherwise have had.

'Major parties, have no doubt, they see me and One Nation as a threat to their political existence'. The WA Electoral Commission has not yet announced the result of any seats, but has Pauline Hanson's One Nation Party reaching or nearing quota in the Agricultural, and Mining and Pastoral regions.

The dust has hardly settled but the blame game is already under way over the Liberal Party's disastrous performance in Western Australia's state election. The gamble backfired, with the conservatives losing office and Pauline Hanson's One Nation party securing less than 5% of the vote.

"This should serve as a clear warning to Tim Nicholls and the Liberal National Party that people will not accept politicians who are more focused on doing sneaky preference deals than on actually delivering for Queenslanders", Ms Trad said in a statement.

Queensland University of Technology political science Professor Clive Bean says the Sunshine State remains strong for One Nation and it can't be written off for the upcoming Queensland election.

With two-thirds of the votes counted the Australian Broadcasting Corporation forecast that One Nation would win one seat, confounding expectations that it could gain enough to influence legislation in the new state parliament. We've just got registered and we got 50 candidates to stand.

"They did not tell people that their preferences were going to the Liberal Party as well. Their preferences went there before One Nation".

"The next federal election is more than two years away and all preference decisions will be considered by the party organisation closer to an election", Mr Turnbull said.

Now when Pauline was first elected in 1996 she was obviously naive, but was harbouring a awful phobia, thinking Australia was being swamped by Asians, and because of the High Court's Mabo decision land owners were going lose their properties to Aboriginal people.

Views are divided in the Coalition over whether there should be deals with One Nation at this year's Queensland election or next year's federal election.

"All the imbroglio with regards to preferences means people start to over-assess and exaggerate what they think the support is of their new partner and they also just confuse their constituencies", he said.
