The release date for highly anticipated Disney film Beauty and the Beast has been postponed indefinitely in Malaysia, the country's major cinemas said on Monday (Mar 13).

Beauty and the Beast courted controversy recently after its director Bill Condon said in United Kingdom magazine Attitude that the character of Le Fou, played by Josh Gad, would have a "nice exclusively gay moment" in the movie. "Like numerous additions to this movie, I think it's a lovely, subtle moment that does its job and is left alone".

Ariana Grande and John Legend have recorded the "Beauty and the Beast" duet while Celine Dion features on the end credits singing a brand new song.

In an interview with People (via Variety), Gad talks of the moment in question, saying the "gay moment" is "subtle but incredibly effective" and "everything that needed to be said on this issue has definitely been said".

Tucci, who lives in London with his English wife Felicity, says he hopes the characters will help to normalise couples of different races in film and TV, which is still rarely seen in the US.

"All these years even without the gay character in the Beauty and the Beast, there are also gays in the world".

Emma Stone later went to win huge critical acclaim for her portrayal of Mia, picking up a Bafta, SAG Award, Golden Globe, Oscar for Best Actress. We have reached out to Disney Malaysia for comment but as of now, no other details about the sudden postponement have been revealed. "It's still one that I love, and my daughter now loves".

I also have to give props to Luke Evans who absolutely steals the show as the villainous Gaston.

But, it is her passion for books that ultimately brings her and Beast together and sets the characters' love story in motion. It was more of just a slight addition. Let's hope, whatever the delay is, we'll get a definite release date for the movie soon, before this "Tale as old as time" gets REALLY old.

Summing up my thoughts on Disney's remake of Beauty and the Beast is a tricky thing.
