And, to think, Gboard wasn't available on Android until recently.

Google has rolled out an update today morning wherein it has introduced a slew of new features to the keyboard.

To test drive these updates to Gboard for Android yourself, head to the Google Play Store and make sure you're running the latest version of the app. I'm sure I'll get it eventually. You can also share these GIFs across other applications including Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, Hangouts, and Allo.

The interface has been given a couple of tweaks so that switching between voice and text typing is easier than ever. Now, tapping the microphone will bring up a new voice typing interface without taking you away from your keyboard.

Emoji and GIF suggestions as-you-type. (Previously, it was just color schemes and an option to choose your own picture.) Google says it will greatly expand these themes moving forward, too.

Showing even more of Google's muscle, you can also now use Google Translate directly in the keyboard - just tap the "G" button, select the incoming and outgoing languages, and type. This is particularly useful in text messaging apps, of course.

Another interesting language-related addition is search support for languages that are read from right to left, such as Farsi, Hebrew and Arabic. Google is positioning Gboard as a one stop solution for translating stuff as well.

Beyond the Google Translate support, Gboard is also getting an improved voice typing feature that makes it easier to switch between speaking and typing modes, new background themes, and automatic emoji and GIF suggestions that pop up as you type. Chances are you already have it, however.
