But Wildlands' setting and open world make it a very different beast, so you might want to try the game out prior to making a purchase.

Starting on February 23 and running until February 27, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC players will be able to participate in the Ghost Recon: Wildlands open beta, with preloading available on February 21.

As a reward for playing the Beta, you will unlock access to an exclusive mission for the full game - the Unidad Conspiracy mission, in which players will spark a war between the Unidad, a local corrupt militia group, and the Santa Blanca cartel. But players can of course confront Montuyoc right away. As with the closed beta, players can hook up with three friends and play the missions cooperatively.

Ubisoft has been championing the open-ended nature of Wildlands since its announcement in 2015, having stated previously that a wide range of "vehicles, weapons, and equipment" are available for operatives in order to get the job done however they see fit. The latter area will pose a much greater challenge to would-be Wildlands players, as this is home to Santa Blanca's elite training centres.

Ubisoft has confirmed that the Ghost Recon: Wildlands Open Beta will be going live next week, ahead of the full game's launch in March.

"The massive and responsive open world encourages a variety of playstyles, allowing players the freedom to choose how they execute any and all missions".
