The Coen Brothers are set to make their first ever TV series

Joel and Ethan Coen are expanding to television with a limited anthology Western series titled The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

The scope of the programme, which is likely to be a mini-series, is reported to have been too ambitious to be covered in one feature film. Even less certain is how it'll be distributed. Even when they're directing a film of a different genre, many of Coen Brothers movies exhibit a kind of western campiness (Sam Elliot in "The Big Lebowski" for instance) that suggests a deep love and familiarity with the genre. Yes, even if Hail, Caesar! was probably a box-office letdown.

The Coen brothers are familiar with Westerns, having previously made Hollywood hits No Country For Old Men and True Grit.

As to the series' story itself, the Coens have their lips sealed beyond the basic idea that Buster Scruggs will interweave six stories. alas, probably not of six actual people all really named Buster Scruggs.

Fargo, a film that starred Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare and was released in 1996, inspired a TV show from writer Noah Hawley as well. Plot details remain unknown.

Tell us, what do you think the brothers have planned for us with this project?

The Coen brothers wrote the script and will direct and produce the project, which marks their first for TV, through their Mike Zoss Productions banner. This is their first foray making a TV series.
