A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has admitted the murders of a mother and her daughter.

The teenage boy who can not be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to the killings at Nottingham Crown Court.

Sergeant Christopher Fletcher and his colleagues smashed their way into a semi-detached house in Lincolnshire after concerns were raised about the welfare of Katie Edwards and her mother, 49-year-old Elizabeth.

Both can not be named or identified for legal reasons.

A pathologist found Elizabeth Edwards had eight sharp force injuries, of which five were on her hands, suggesting she may have tried to fend off her killer, Joyce said.

The bodies were found by police who broke down the door to the address on April 15, about 36 hours after the murders.

Katie was stabbed twice in the neck - with one blow so "severe" it penetrated a bone in her spine.

"On April 12 they met at McDonalds and discussed the plans to kill Miss Edwards and her daughter".

He stabbed Liz Edwards in the throat as he pinned her down while kneeling astride her. She went into the bedroom and saw the boy with a pillow over Liz Edward's head.

Katie Edwards died from a haemorrhage to the neck and smothering.

The jury heard how the boy had four knives in a backpack, and a large black-handled kitchen knife with a 20cm blade, which was shown to jurors.

Elizabeth, 49, was found after being repeatedly stabbed lying on bed in a room that had "blood spatters" on the wall, floor, and bedding, the court heard.

Mr Joyce said the girl waited in the bathroom during the murders because she "did not like the smell of blood". "The boy checked that Mrs Edwards was dead by checking her pulse".

"Her face was later covered with a sheet".

Speaking at the time of the deaths, Rev Mike Chesher at St Paul's Parish Church, said of Elizabeth: "I don't know how we'll manage without her because she's just brilliant - such a genuine, committed person of such integrity".

However Mr Joyce said he would be presenting a prosecution case which would make it impossible for her to prove that her responsibility was diminished.

The two defendants, who are reportedly boyfriend and girlfriend, were aged 14 at the time of the alleged offences.
