Tropical Storm Julia keeping strength off coast of Carolinas

Pleading For Rain Mainly Sunny and Hot

We'll simply have to watch it over the coming week to see if it can survive the trek across the Atlantic and eventually pose any threat to land. This general motion is expected to continue through Saturday.

This is the time of year when tropical systems can sprout up with very little warning.

The weekend forecast across North Carolina is looking pretty good especially considering that there is a tropical system just off the Carolina coast. The storm was moving west at 13 miles per hour. It now is posing no threat to land.

Small-craft advisories were posted along the East Coast on Friday as Tropical Storm Julia continued to meander off the Carolinas.

In the eastern Pacific, Orlene is a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour. The center of circulation is most likely to miss us by a few hundred miles, passing to our south near South Padre Island. The system is expected to turn toward the west or west-southwest and move faster for the next three to four days as mid-level ridging builds to its north.

A tropical wave near the coast of Africa could become a tropical depression by early next week as it moves westward. All the streets had reopened by rush hour Thursday morning. By early Thursday they were croaking loudly in the wetlands as Tropical Storm Julia pulled farther offshore, its rains diminishing.

All coastal beaches will be under high rip current risks through the weekend as the storm passes. There's now no threat to land.

Julia has weakened to a tropical depression off the coast of Georgia and SC, where it's expected to meander for the next few days, dumping rain, but not posing major threats.

Tropical Depression Julia continues to spin across the southwestern Atlantic.

As of 4 a.m. CDT Friday, Tropical Storm Ian was located about 600 miles east of Cape Race, Newfoundland, and was racing northeast at 48 mph.
