Top seed Novak Djokovic moved into the U.S. Open semifinals for the 10th consecutive year when No. 9 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga stopped because of a left knee injury.

The world number one held a 6-3 6-2 lead over Tsonga when the French ninth seed retired due to a knee injury on Tuesday.

Gael Monfils brushed aside Rafael Nadal's conqueror Lucas Pouille at the US Open to reach his first semi-final since 2008. Today's quarter-finals in the other half of the draw feature three top 10 players in Murray, Stan Wawrinka and Nishikori, plus the resurgent Juan Martin del Potro. All four matches were decided in straight sets - or, in the case Djokovic vs. Tsonga, even fewer. Of course that this Grand Slam is very unique for me. Instead it became the third match out of five in which Djokovic watched as his opponent retired.

"It's a court I love", he told the crowd during an on-court interview.

Gael Monfils has been all business in reaching the US Open semi-finals, but the flashy French player scoffs at the idea he's damped down the showmanship on objective.

"Of course", Pouille said, "I was a bit exhausted today".

Roberta Vinci, who stunned Serena Williams on the way to last year's U.S. Open final, says she will ponder retiring at the end of this season.

His build-up to the final Grand Slam of the year was hampered by a wrist injury, and he received treatment on his arm during both his first and fourth-round matches.

But the entertaining Monfils has been playing the best tennis of his career lately, winning all 15 sets he's played at Flushing Meadows during this tournament. One of those titles came at last year's U.S. Open when he defeated Federer in the finals.

"I dive because I want to win the point".

However, the 12-time grand-slam champion is unworried about his lack of competitive action ahead of a last-four clash against Gael Monfils. "It would have been better if I played a bit less time on court".

Monfils should take no shame in that statement considering Djokovic is better than everyone at this point as the No. 1 player.

The unseeded Wozniacki, a two-time finalist at the U.S. Open, will next take on second-seeded German Angelique Kerber on Thursday in a battle of two of the fittest and most consistent players on the WTA Tour.

"I played so many matches this year, " said Djokovic, who had his new friends Ben Stiller and Hugh Jackman in his box.

Wozniacki is another who has impressed in NY this year, and the Dane continued her top form in beating Anastasija Sevastova, who had previously knocked out the French Open champion Garbine Muguruza and No.13 seed Johanna Konta.

It was just his second win in nine matches with the Briton but he is happy chasing down deficits.
