A Palestinian would-be attacker who tried to ram a auto into a group of Israeli border guards in a refugee camp in occupied east Jerusalem was killed by police Monday.

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri says the officers were concluding a patrol in the Shuafat refugee camp Monday when a vehicle sped toward them and tried to run them over.

Local sources said that Israeli soldiers killed Mustafa Namer and injured another as they were driving a vehicle on a street in the camp. Mustafa died at the scene, Ali sustaining moderate injuries. There were no Israeli casualties, and one of the attackers was killed.

Since October, 35 Israelis and four foreign nationals have been killed in a spate of car-ramming, stabbing, shooting, and bombing attacks.

The most recent round of peace talks between the Israelis and Palestinians was initiated by the United States in mid-2013 but ended in a deadlock nearly a year later.

"In the wake of destructive attacks coming from your area against civilians, the Israeli defense forces and the Israeli security forces will operate with increased effort against terrorists and against anyone involved in such activity", the warning read.
