Ivanka Trump Pushes Some Pretty Liberal Policy Plans On Stage At RNC

Trump's speech on the closing night of the Republican convention marks his highest-profile opportunity to unite his fractured Republican Party and quiet Americans' concerns about his preparedness for the White House. Later, as Trump was speaking, a well-known protester interrupted the nominee ― a startling failure of both security and logistics.

The Log Cabin Republicans, a GOP gay rights group, have denounced the party's platform as the most anti-LGBT in the party's 162-year history.

As speakers all week have done, Trump sought to rally Republicans to his cause with sharp and relentless attacks on Clinton and the Democratic Party.

"He's a chicken", said Eugene Delgaudio, a delegate from Sterling, Virginia, who clucked like a chicken when asked about Cruz's decision.

"She is showing the softer side" of Trump, said Chris Herrod, state director for Ted Cruz in Utah.

Party leaders, who never envisioned a Trump candidacy when this marathon began, also probably breathed a sigh of relief that he allowed his better angels, or at least his speechwriters, freer rein.

"I don't want his endorsement", Trump said at a hastily arranged speech to volunteers in Cleveland. "These are the forgotten men and women of our country".

So far this has been an election between two candidates that polls show most people don't like.

"I am your voice", he vowed, portraying himself as the super hero of the common man.

"This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton: death, destruction, terrorism and weakness", he said. The former secretary of state, he added, was proposing "mass amnesty, mass immigration and mass lawlessness".

In her remarks Thursday, Ivanka Trump told a story about the times Trump has worked to help others, even people he didn't know. "Lock her up! Lock her up!" Donald Trump "sacrificed greatly to enter the political field as an outsider", she said, referring, perhaps, to his renunciation of another season of "The Apprentice", and nights spent in places like Iowa.

He said, "Donald Trump will build the wall" - at which point the crowd chanted "Build the wall!"

US Senator Ted Cruz of Texas has refused to back Donald Trump.

"I didn't start anything with the wife", Trump said of the attack ads during the primary, which he retweeted, that featured an unflattering photo of Heidi Cruz.

His team hopes to close the convention on a more traditional note, with the businessman delivering a scripted speech to the convention crowd and millions of Americans watching on television.

The first three days of this week's convention bordered on chaos, starting with a plagiarism charge involving his wife Melania Trump's speech and moving on to Texas Sen.

She claimed there were more female than male executives, and women are paid the same as men in Mr Trump's company. Her primetime speech elicited repeated applause and much praise from delegates in the arena.

"I love the media", Trump said with a smile as he tested the microphone.
