Inside the Special Kabali Flight That Took Fans From Bengaluru to Chennai

Garry Little | 23 July, 2016, 06:42

Rajinikant-starrer "Kabali" today released across the country with frenzied fans swarming the theatres to have an early morning glimpse of their "Thalaivar" (leader).

Hundreds of thousands of fans are flocking to cinemas across India with frenzy also mounting around the world.

Plans to screen the mega film in a few five-star hotels in the city from Friday to Sunday were aborted after Bangalore Deputy Commissioner V. Shankar declined permission, as hotels do not come under the purview of the Karnataka Cinema (Regulation) Act.

Sixty-five-year-old Rajinikanth is India's most popular star and counts millions of fans who speak the Tamil language and even those who don't. He is one of Asia's highest paid actors with a notoriously devoted fan base. Alandur P. Sridhar, an insurance company employee, came to watch the film in a group of 30 fans, all dressed in white T-shirts with Rajinikanth's picture.

What is Kabali all about?

Everything was smooth sailing until the passengers were told that they would not be watching the movie in Sathyam, but at Prasad Studio in Vedapalani area instead. People are getting insane for the film and to bought its tickets.

Finally, Kabali is a must watch for Rajini's hardcore fans.

In a related development, the state-run postal department has made a decision to release a special carrier cover to mark the special aircraft that will fly fans from here to Chennai on Friday to watch the movie. If people in the South of India have declared the day of his movie release as a holiday, how could the movie's music also not set a record of its own?

Rajinikanth merchandise was selling briskly outside theaters in Tamil Nadu. He also fights for the rights of Tamils who are downtrodden in Malaysia.

In some places, special prayers were held for the success of the film, reminding that Rajinikanth's popularity has not taken a dent despite back-to-back flops in "Kochadaiyaan" and "Lingaa". Kabali is full of action and more of the scenes had attracted the audience towards it. Kabali received a great response from the audience on the very first day of its release and had done a great collection on the box office. "He hasn't changed one bit", said Sridhar.

The film released to packed houses across Kerala, where tickets were sold in advance and many of theatres showed "houseful" boards.

In 1999, Newsweek magazine compared Rajinikanth's fame in Japan to that of Leonardo DiCaprio.
